TEAM PRINCIPLEAttacking restartsSUB-PRINCIPLE

Coordinate runs

Attack separate spaces with timed movement.

Required player actions

  • Striker 9 checks away from the target, then accelerates as midfielder 10 begins the delivery.
  • Winger 7 attacks the near space while winger 11 arrives in the far space at a different depth.
  • Midfielder 8 delays at the edge for a cutback or clearance instead of joining the same run.

Starting picture · Blue: Northbridge · Sand: opposition · Gold rings: focus players · White dot: ball

A starting picture for the practice, with the focus players highlighted. Both teams keep their 4-3-3 roles; movement and decisions develop through live play.

Organization

Full pitch, 11v11 including goalkeepers; both teams retain 4-3-3 roles. Begin with a right corner and identify near, central and far target spaces without restricting defenders.

Practice task

Midfielder 10 delivers when winger 7, striker 9 and winger 11 begin coordinated runs to different spaces. Midfielder 8 supports behind the arrivals; the match stays live after the first contact.

What to observe

On four of six starts, the three attackers arrive in distinct spaces as the ball enters the area, with at least one able to challenge the delivery.

Progression

Remove the target-space markers and let 10 select the delivery from the defenders’ positioning; the runners must adapt without bunching.
