Cover and remove options

Nearby teammates block useful outlets instead of all chasing the ball.

Required player actions

  • 6 screens the first central outlet after the loss.
  • The near fullback covers behind the pressing winger.
  • The centre-back tracks depth while the nearest midfielder pressures.

Starting picture · Blue: Northbridge · Sand: opposition · Gold rings: focus players · White dot: ball

A starting picture for the practice, with the focus players highlighted. Both teams keep their 4-3-3 roles; movement and decisions develop through live play.

Organization

22 players, two 4-3-3 teams, a full-size pitch and two goals. Start with a turnover beside the right interior and opposition options ahead and wide.

Practice task

8 pressures the carrier; 6 screens the striker connection and 2 adjusts behind the ball-side pressure. The opponent tries to use whichever outlet remains open.

What to observe

Supporting players remove different forward options instead of surrounding the same carrier.

Progression

Let the opponent switch the location of its nearest supporting midfielder.
