TEAM PRINCIPLEFinish the attackSUB-PRINCIPLE

Create through a 1v1

Beat a defender when it opens a shot or a better pass.

Required player actions

  • 7 attacks the defender's exposed side with a change of pace or direction.
  • 9 occupies a centre-back without blocking the winger's route toward goal.
  • 8 becomes a cutback or combination option if a second defender leaves that space to help.
COACHING QUESTION

EXAMPLE PRACTICES

Create through a 1v1

Beat the fullback to create the chance

Starting picture · Blue: Northbridge · Sand: opposition · Gold rings: focus players · White dot: ball

A starting picture for the practice, with the focus players highlighted. Both teams keep their 4-3-3 roles; movement and decisions develop through live play.

Organization

11v11, full pitch, two goals, both teams in 4-3-3 and normal offside. Start with 7 receiving near the penalty-area corner.

Practice task

7 engages the fullback to create a shot or delivery. 9 threatens the central space and 8 supports inside; use them if a second defender commits.

What to observe

The duel creates separation for a meaningful final action rather than a dribble into extra pressure.

Progression

Give the fullback freedom to show inside or outside, changing the attacker's first touch and feint.
